www.sitmeanssit.com Getting my dog from his plane ride today. I always hear different dog people talk about what their dog was like when they first got him off the plane upon arrival. A young puppy, and in the case of my puppy, it is a very young black labrador retriever puppy that is only 8 weeks old, can be a very stressful experience. The puppy is gone from his siblings or mother all of a sudden and taken on a bumpy plane ride where he has probably been confined for hours, and then greeted by a stranger. Even adult dogs can naturally find this experience very stressful at times. I am not one that puts everything into how the dog reacts when he first comes out of that crate after the long plane ride, although we all would ideally like to see them act as confident as can be. That isn’t always the case, and it takes a couple weeks or longer in a lot of cases for the puppy to become acclimated and then you can give him a fair initial evaluation. This puppy had a very good initial response to all of these new things happening, and although was hesitant for a second or two, recovered very quickly and has done nothing but been a tail wagging and confident dog the more that he sees. I’m sure he’s going to just get stronger and stronger as the days go by. What was your puppy like when he first arrived? c

Your New Puppy – A Supplies Checklist
June 8th, 2010So, you’ve decided to buy a dog? Congratulations! This will be extremely exciting for you and your family. I’ve made up a checklist of supplies you’ll need:
The basics:
Travel crate – Crates are essential for your puppy even if you aren’t planning on crate training it. It makes transporting a sick or injured dog easier and much more safe.
Food and water bowls – Start with low and shallow bowls. Bowls that are tip-proof are also good. You’ll probably have to upgrade your dog’s bowls as they grow.
Food – Choose an age-appropriate food for your dog. High quality dog food keeps your dog happy and healthy.
Collar – Pick a collar that fits properly now, and you can upgrade later if needed.
Leash – A six foot leash works bet. Choose the size of the leash compared to your dog’s size.
ID tag – This will be able to tell people your phone number if your dog ever gets loose.
Toys – Toys are important for keeping your dog entertained and even helps them become more intellegence.
Puppy treats – Puppy treats are important for training and rewarding your puppy.
Grooming supplies – Choose the supplise that are best suited for your dog’s breed.
The Extras:
Obedience training guide – This is an online guide that is much cheaper then obedience classes. It teaches you how to train your dog skills and prevent any bad behaviors in the future. It also helps stop bad behaviors. It will also help you create a good bond between you and your dog.
Clothing – This can be fun but also protects your dog from the cold weather. A lot of websites and stores make cute clothes for dogs that are also good for your dog’s health.
